The Terms of a B-1 Visa

B-1 visa holders can remain in the U.S. for no more than one year and may be granted extensions in increments of no more than six months. The only exception is for alien members of a religious denomination coming temporarily and solely to do missionary work on behalf of a religious denomination. Religious missionaries may be granted extensions of not more than one year each, provided that such work does not involve selling articles or soliciting/accepting donations.

B-1 visa holders are not allowed to work in the United States, must intend to leave the country before their visa expires, and must have an adequate financial arrangement.
