“Why are you here today?” is a question nearly all our clients hear when they arrive for their consultation at Gambacorta Law. Many clients seek immigration legal help to pursue their American dream of coming to and staying in a country that gives them the opportunity to do whatever is in his or her heart. Unfortunately, immigration opportunities have recently become scarce as a result of increased security and a lackluster economy.
Still, people travel thousands of miles to find better opportunities, sometimes crossing oceans to do so. These are people who use their entire life savings to purchase an airline ticket to travel to the United States without knowing for sure that they will be able to gain entry upon their arrival. Or, if they manage to gain entry, the time comes when they may have to leave before their authorized stay expires. Those who overstay their welcome risk years of prohibited entry once they depart the United States.

Other foreign nationals fortunate enough to obtain permanent residency might commit what seem to be trivial crimes, only to be arrested by the immigration authorities and ordered to attend immigration court. Will the foreign national be deported? Are there grounds of inadmissibility? What is an aggregated felony? Perhaps a foreign national misrepresents themselves or commits fraud to an immigration officer. Without a waiver, that foreign national may be barred from the United States for life. These are the challenges that immigration attorneys face on a daily basis. The stakes are high in immigration law.
